Town Halls

The project seeks to enhance constituent engagement by generating a two-way dialogue between residents and an elected official on a relevant political issue. Unique outreach and collaborative technologies are applied to gather a representative cross-section of constituents, provide relevant background information on the issue in advance, and then have candid conversations that are moderated by neutral third party.

Connecting to Parliament (C2P) is a non-partisan, research-driven collaboration between scholars of democracy and an elected Member of the Australian Parliament. It is led by the world-leading Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance at the University of Canberra.

This project builds on the insights gained from the Connecting to Congress (C2C) project in the United States, and will adapt it to suit the Australian context. The American C2C has demonstrated that interactive digital technologies can be used to directly connect constituents to their representatives.
